On the map of the communication market in Southeast Asia, Malaysia is undergoing a profound transformation. Recently, local operator U Mobile successfully obtained RMB 7.36 billion in syndicated financing and announced that it will fully adopt Huawei and ZTE equipment to build the country's second 5G network. This is not only a commercial cooperation, but also marks the official transition of Malaysia's 5G construction from a single network model to a new pattern of dual network competition.
7.36 billion financing sets a record, breaking the monopoly of 5G
This 10-year syndicated financing was jointly provided by four mainstream Malaysian banks including CIMB and Maybank, setting a new record for the scale of transactions denominated in Malaysian Ringgit for unlisted companies in the country. All funds will be invested in the construction of 5G networks, with the goal of achieving coverage in 80% of densely populated areas by the second half of 2026. As an operator with a market share of approximately 19%, U Mobile has successfully broken the previous monopoly of a single 5G network jointly operated by National Digital Corporation and Ericsson, injecting competitive vitality into the Malaysian communication market.

Huawei and ZTE divide their work between east and west, leveraging their respective technological advantages
According to the cooperation agreement, Huawei and ZTE will divide the deployment based on their respective technical expertise and regional characteristics. Huawei will lead the 5G construction in the economically active and densely populated West Malaysia Peninsula, where there is already a solid foundation - for example, in the Penang Bridge 5G trial, Huawei achieved seamless coverage of 13.5 kilometers. ZTE will focus on the East Malaysia region, including complex terrain areas with multiple mountains and islands such as Sabah and Sarawak. Previously, ZTE's technological accumulation in the 5G-A live broadcast of the Malaysia Games enabled it to better adapt to the coverage needs of remote areas.

Building an enterprise level 5G network to support the evolution of 5G-A technology
U Mobile emphasizes that its 5G network will adopt enterprise level standards, be based on 5G independent networking architecture from the early stages of deployment, and support 5G Advanced and network slicing technology. These features will be able to meet the customized needs of vertical industries such as intelligent manufacturing and remote healthcare. The network will prioritize coverage of key areas such as transportation hubs, medical institutions, smart cities, and data centers, and achieve full area 5G indoor coverage within buildings. With the implementation of this project, the era of 5G dual network competition in Malaysia has officially begun. The cooperation between Huawei and ZTE is not only a commercial order acquisition, but also an important practice of China's 5G technology in overseas markets. Many Southeast Asian countries are closely monitoring the progress of this project, and its successful implementation will lay a solid foundation for China's communication technology to further open up regional markets.
