In Vientiane, the capital of Laos, a special "National Day gift" has recently entered the public eye - Laos' first national level artificial intelligence model has been officially launched to help local people process information and affairs more efficiently. The birthplace of this model can be traced back to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern Xinjiang, China. This is not only the crystallization of the technological friendship between China and Laos, but also a microcosm of the close cooperation between Guangxi and ASEAN countries in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Nowadays, such cooperation stories are being staged one after another on the broader ASEAN stage.

New Chapter of Cooperation: The Eight Nation Agreement under the 'One Country, One Policy' Framework

In early 2025, Wei Ran, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, announced at a press conference in Nanning that Guangxi had signed cooperation agreements related to artificial intelligence with eight ASEAN countries. This marks a substantial breakthrough in the cooperation between China and ASEAN in key areas of the digital economy.

We have established a specialized team for the development of artificial intelligence to deeply connect with the actual needs of each ASEAN partner through the mechanisms of 'one country, one policy' and 'one country, one group', "Director Wei Ran introduced. The foreign affairs department of Guangxi conducted a systematic survey on the current development status of artificial intelligence in ASEAN countries, aiming to make cooperation more precise and practical. Through diplomatic channels such as the embassies and consulates of ASEAN countries in China, Guangxi is actively attracting more ASEAN enterprises to settle in the China ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Center jointly built by both sides, making the cooperation platform increasingly strong.

Sowing the Future: The 'Guangxi Classroom' for 260 ASEAN Talents

The vitality of an agreement lies in its execution, and talent is the core. Even before the agreement was widely implemented, Guangxi was already cultivating the "seeds" of artificial intelligence and digital economy for ASEAN. Up to now, Guangxi has successfully held 7 AI themed training courses for leaders from Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, training a total of 260 people. These students return to their respective countries with advanced development concepts and applied technologies, becoming an important spark for promoting the intelligent transformation of local industries.

At the same time, Guangxi is also focusing on consolidating the technological foundation of cooperation. By building an artificial intelligence basic corpus and establishing the Guangxi Artificial Intelligence Translation Innovation Application Center and Guangxi ASEAN Non Common Language Artificial Intelligence Translation Training Base, Guangxi is striving to break down language and technological barriers and clear obstacles for deeper communication.

Fruitful results: from the cooperation center to the 'Laos model'

Cooperation should ultimately be reflected in concrete results that benefit people's livelihoods. The China ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Center, jointly established by Guangxi and ASEAN countries, is precisely such a core platform that gathers wisdom, promotes innovation, and promotes inclusive development. One of the most notable achievements is the Laos National Model jointly developed by Guangxi and Laos. This project, which carries the friendship of technological cooperation, has been officially opened for use by the Laotian people as a National Day gift to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Laos. It is not only a technological tool, but also a symbol of friendly cooperation between China and Laos in the digital age, demonstrating how artificial intelligence technology can specifically empower a country's development. From signing agreements to cultivating talents, to jointly building platforms and producing landmark achievements, the cooperation between Guangxi and ASEAN in the field of artificial intelligence has formed a complete closed loop of "planning cultivation output". This "Digital Silk Road" paved with AI technology is closely linking the future of China and ASEAN.Editor/Yang Meiling
