The key project of the national "14th Five Year Plan" for power generation, namely the "Three Connections and Nine Direct Lines" - the Mengxi Beijing Tianjin Hebei ± 800 kV High Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project, has officially started construction. Inner Mongolia and Hebei have held simultaneous mobilization activities for construction through video conferencing. The implementation of this project will build a "super highway" for the power transmission of the "Shagehuang" new energy base, injecting green momentum into the coordinated development of Beijing Tianjin Hebei.

The project starts from Dalate Converter Station in Ordos, Inner Mongolia and ends at Xiongnan Converter Station in Cangzhou, Hebei, passing through three provinces (regions) of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Hebei. The total length of the transmission line is about 700 kilometers, with a rated voltage of ± 800 kV and a rated capacity of 8 million kilowatts. The total investment is about 17.2 billion yuan, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2027. As the first "Shagehuang" new energy base transmission channel in Inner Mongolia, the project adopts the "Double 800" ultra-high voltage hybrid direct current transmission technology for the first time, which can efficiently transmit 12 million kilowatts of new energy electricity from the Kubuqi Desert, helping Inner Mongolia form a "four AC and four DC" ultra-high voltage transmission pattern with an export scale of over 50 million kilowatts.

As the first ultra-high voltage direct current project to land in Hebei, the project can deliver over 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei load center annually after completion, of which new energy accounts for over 50%, equivalent to replacing 6.3 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 16.6 million tons. The project will promote the formation of a comprehensive supply system for ultra-high voltage in Hebei Province, providing stable green power support for the construction of Xiong'an New Area and the upgrading of industries in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region, while improving the main network structure of ultra-high voltage in the North China region.

In addition, the project is expected to drive investment of over 39 billion yuan in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, provide 12000 job opportunities, involve hundreds of units such as equipment manufacturing and survey and design, expand effective investment, stimulate new quality productivity, and provide a replicable model of "resource transformation+ecological governance+cross regional consumption" for the development of the national "Shage Wilderness" base.Editor/Bian Wenjun
