On January 1, 2026, two sets of 160 km/h electric multiple units and two 7200 kW electric locomotives tailored by CRRC Dalian Company were successfully delivered to the Kuantan track laying base in Pahang, Malaysia. At 18:50 on the same day, the first high-speed train was successfully dispatched to the Guangdan locomotive and vehicle depot maintenance warehouse, and the remaining one high-speed train and two electric locomotives were all completed and put into storage on January 2, laying a solid equipment foundation for achieving the project's phased opening goal within the year.

This cross-border delivery task covers multiple high difficulty links such as sea land intermodal transportation, grouping and re coupling, and non fire return, which puts strict requirements on transportation scheme planning and on-site collaborative operations. The General Manager's Department of CCCC Ma Dong Railway Project has made advance arrangements, organized cross departmental and cross regional work teams, refined various contingency plans such as transportation route survey, loading and unloading process deduction, and safety risk prevention and control. From loading and transportation at domestic ports, to unloading and transferring at Malaysian ports, and then to precise scheduling within the base, all links are seamlessly connected and efficiently promoted, ultimately achieving zero equipment failure and zero delay delivery, and firing the "first shot" of the project's new year construction.
This batch of locomotive equipment is a customized product created by CRRC Dalian Company for the working conditions and operational needs of the Ma Dong Railway line, with three core advantages of intelligence, greenness, and high reliability. Electric multiple units (EMUs) are designed with a focus on "lightweight and high-end", equipped with a dual redundant protection train network control system to build a "smart neural network" that covers the entire train and can monitor key system operating parameters such as traction, high voltage, and auxiliary in real time; The on-board fault diagnosis system has a response speed of milliseconds, which can quickly identify and warn potential faults, just like equipping trains with "intelligent doctors" on standby at any time. At the same time, the whole vehicle achieves weight reduction and consumption reduction through body structure optimization and the application of new materials, fully practicing the green and low-carbon manufacturing and operation concept while improving operational efficiency.

The 7200 kW electric locomotive that is matched with it focuses on upgrading the heavy-duty traction performance, with technical characteristics such as large starting traction, wide constant power range, and superior adhesion performance, which can easily cope with the complex terrain of the Ma Dong Railway line. The locomotive is equipped with an intelligent human-machine interaction and safety protection system, which conducts millisecond level inspections on key aspects such as braking system status, vehicle fire monitoring, and high-voltage insulation performance, forming a comprehensive and blind spot free safety protection system, providing solid support for subsequent line commissioning and commercial operation.

Looking back at the development process of the equipment, on November 18, 2025, these high-speed trains and electric locomotives were officially rolled off the assembly line at CRRC Dalian Company. At that time, with advanced technology configuration and adaptive design, they attracted widespread attention in the industry. As the flagship project of the "the Belt and Road" jointly built by China and Malaysia, the completion of the Malaysia East Railway will greatly shorten the passage time between the east coast and the west coast of Malaysia, and drive the regional economic development and industrial upgrading along the line. With the successful installation of the first batch of core locomotive equipment, the project construction will fully enter the fast lane and strive towards the goal of opening to traffic within the year.Editor/Bian Wenjun
