In Mabini Town, Bangaxinan Province, Philippines, on a sunny land, local officials and representatives of Chinese companies jointly used shovels to cultivate soil, marking the official groundbreaking of the Mabini solar energy project invested by Trina Solar and constructed by China International Engineering Corporation. This is not only the foundation of a power station, but also symbolizes a substantial new stage of cooperation between China and the Philippines in the field of clean energy, lighting up hope for green development for local communities.

Balancing scale and efficiency

The Mabini solar project is the first green space project invested and developed by Trina Solar in the Philippines, with a total installed capacity of 60 megawatts. The project covers an area of 41.25 hectares and adopts advanced ground mounted photovoltaic technology, with a total investment of approximately 1.9 billion Philippine pesos. The project is expected to enter commercial operation by the end of the third quarter of 2026 and has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with local power company AdventEnergy, ensuring its long-term stable market consumption. According to calculations, the first year of the project's power generation capacity can reach 110.84 gigawatt hours, which is sufficient to meet the electricity needs of over 24000 households. It can reduce approximately 76500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually for the local area, with significant environmental benefits.

Chinese companies join forces to form strong alliances

This project adopts a typical efficient cooperation model of "Chinese investment+Chinese construction". As a leading international photovoltaic enterprise, Trina Solar invests and develops through its global project development department, the International Systems Division; The EPC general contracting task is undertaken by the central enterprise China National Engineering Corporation Limited. This combination fully leverages the comprehensive advantages of Chinese enterprises in investment and financing, technology, equipment, engineering management, etc., ensuring the smooth progress and high-quality construction of the project. This cooperation is a successful practice of China's new energy industry chain synergy going global, demonstrating the strong ability of Chinese enterprises to provide integrated solutions for overseas markets. Supporting sustainable development and regional cooperation

The commencement of the Mabini project has positive implications for the local community, the energy structure of the Philippines, and the economic and trade relations between China and the Philippines. For the Philippines, this project directly increases clean power supply, enhances energy security, creates employment opportunities, and promotes the green transformation of the local energy structure. For Trina Solar, this is an important milestone in its expansion into the Southeast Asian market, laying a solid foundation for the company's future development of solar energy, energy storage, microgrids, and other projects in the region. More broadly speaking, this project is a vivid example of deepening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and jointly promoting green development. It has made contributions to addressing global climate change through practical actions and reflects the responsibility and commitment of Chinese enterprises in international energy cooperation.Editor/Gao Xue
