On February 24, 2026, the National Energy Administration released monitoring data on charging services for new energy vehicles on highways during the 2026 Spring Festival holiday. Data shows that from February 15th (the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month) to February 23rd (the 7th day of the first lunar month), both the amount and frequency of high-speed charging in China reached a historical high, and the demand for green long-distance travel experienced a concentrated outbreak. The penetration rate of new energy vehicles continued to rise.
The statistical data is based on 53300 highway charging piles included in the National Charging Facility Monitoring Service Platform. During the holiday period, the total charging capacity of electric vehicles on highways reached 149.7675 million kilowatt hours, with an average daily charging capacity of 16.6408 million kilowatt hours, an increase of 52.01% compared to the Spring Festival in 2025; The cumulative charging frequency has reached 6.021 million times, breaking the record for charging service frequency during the Spring Festival holiday. Among them, the demand for charging was particularly strong in the first three days of the holiday, with a year-on-year increase of 63.05% in daily charging volume, and a year-on-year increase of 116.32% in daily charging volume on the first day, demonstrating the normalization trend of long-distance travel of new energy vehicles.
In response to the large-scale travel and charging demand during the Spring Festival, the National Energy Administration has deployed in advance and organized various regions and related enterprises to strengthen service guarantees. Realize real-time monitoring of the entire network through an information platform, guide pre holiday special patrols, holiday duty and charging guidance, increase the allocation of mobile charging equipment, comprehensively inspect key facilities such as charging guns, and ensure reliable operation of equipment. At present, over 98% of highway service areas in China have built charging facilities, and the proportion of high-power fast charging piles continues to increase. The energy replenishment efficiency has significantly improved, laying a solid foundation for the travel of new energy vehicles during the Spring Festival travel rush.
The double breaking of charging capacity and frequency marks that China's new energy vehicles are accelerating their transformation from urban commuting to long-distance main travel models. Behind the data lies the continuous increase in the number of new energy vehicles and the synchronous improvement of charging infrastructure construction. Next, the National Energy Administration will promote the implementation of the "Three Year Doubling" action for the service capacity of electric vehicle charging facilities, continuously improve the layout of the charging network in highway service areas, and focus on enhancing the guarantee of charging services during major holidays, making green travel more convenient and efficient.
