Under the scorching sun of the Iberian Peninsula, large photovoltaic panels convert solar energy into electricity, but also put pressure on the local power grid due to fluctuations in output. On June 16th, Chinese solar energy storage company Sunac announced the signing of a framework agreement with global infrastructure investment management company Nuveen Infrastructure. This institution, which manages a large number of sustainable assets, has decided to hand over the energy storage process of its portfolio companies (including Verdian) in renewable energy projects developed in Southern Europe to Sunac's PowerTitan 2.0.

According to the agreement, SUNGROW will supply 302 sets of PowerTitan 2.0 liquid cooled energy storage systems and 77 integrated medium voltage stations (MVS), with a total capacity of 1.32GWh. This solution, designed specifically for utility level scenarios, can charge and discharge as needed, smooth wind and solar fluctuations, participate in grid peak shaving, and comes with a long-term service agreement that guarantees 98% system availability, extended warranty for critical components, annual preventive maintenance, and 7 × 24-hour operational support. Nuveen Infrastructure's Global Asset Management Manager for Clean Energy, Hodi Franche, stated that with top tier energy storage technology and proactive management tools, they are upgrading European assets into data-driven flexible energy systems, truly turning renewable energy into dispatchable and reliable power resources.

Southern Europe's energy transition drives the urgent need for energy storage

In recent years, the installed capacity of renewable energy in Southern Europe has surged, and the contradiction between midday photovoltaic curtailment and late peak power shortage has become increasingly prominent. The demand for long-term energy storage in the power grid has shifted from an optional option to a mandatory one. This cooperation will directly serve Nuveen Infrastructure's clean energy strategic layout in the region, by allocating and storing on the power generation side, improving the absorption rate of new energy and enhancing the resilience of the power grid. Industry data shows that SUNGROW has currently signed contracts exceeding 4.7 GWh in the large energy storage market in Europe, firmly ranking in the first tier.

Several large orders from South America and Europe in half a month

This is not an isolated case - within just half a month, Sunshine Power's overseas large-scale storage layout has significantly accelerated: on May 28th, it signed a contract with Spanish independent power operator Sonneix to provide 643.8MWh PowerTitan 2.0 system for the Librillo project in Chile; On June 4th, a long-term agreement was signed with mining giant BHP Billiton to deploy 195MW of photovoltaics and 960MWh of energy storage at its Escondida and Spence copper mines in Chile; Recently, the Bulgarian Nova Zagora 150MW/600MWh energy storage system, which also collaborated with integrator Sunotec, has been officially put into operation. The continuous implementation of projects confirms its technological strength and brand recognition in the global large-scale energy storage field.

PowerTitan 2.0 supports global delivery

The PowerTitan 2.0 sent to Southern Europe this time adopts a liquid cooling architecture, which is suitable for high-power operation under high ambient temperatures, and has built-in intelligent temperature control and cluster level management to reduce the risk of parallel circulation and capacity attenuation. SUNGROW has established a localized service network worldwide, forming a closed loop from design, supply to long-term operation and maintenance. This is also an important reason why international investors can confidently sign LTSA (Long Term Service Agreement) with a 98% availability commitment. As projects in Europe and South America enter their peak period of delivery and operation, Chinese companies are shifting from simply selling equipment to providing full lifecycle energy solutions.keywords:Domestic new energy latest news

As of press time, SUNGROW has not disclosed the specific start schedule for the first phase of the project under the framework agreement, but has stated that it will be delivered in batches according to the development progress of the Nuveen Infrastructure project. At present, as energy storage becomes a key node in the new power system, this intensive cooperation spanning Central and South America may only be the beginning of a new acceleration period for China's large-scale energy storage to go global.Editor/Yang Meiling
