China's offshore wind power construction has ushered in a series of new breakthroughs. In Shandong, China's deepest offshore wind power project has just achieved full capacity production, with 42 12 MW wind turbines standing 70 kilometers offshore and a maximum depth of 56 meters in the deep sea area; In Hainan, the first batch of units of Qiyuan offshore wind farm were recently connected to the grid for power generation, with an expected annual power generation of 150 million kilowatt hours; The world's largest 26 megawatt offshore wind turbine has also been officially put into operation, achieving a new breakthrough in technology and manufacturing.

The latest data shows that as of the end of February 2026, China's installed wind power capacity was 650 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 22.8%, with offshore wind power accounting for an increasing proportion. Since 2026, China's offshore wind power industry is accelerating the construction of a competitive advantage across the entire industry chain. Technology is more innovative.

The first large-scale application of 16.2 MW units in China's offshore wind farm has achieved a 5% to 10% increase in wind farm revenue through the installation of intelligent sensing, meteorological, and energy models. Cluster construction is accelerating. Currently, multiple important offshore wind power industry bases have been formed in coastal areas. In Shantou, Guangdong, the local government is planning to explore diversified utilization models such as "offshore wind power+hydrogen production, ammonia production, and alcohol production", and is accelerating the construction of a world-class offshore wind power high-end equipment industry cluster.

The outline of the 15th Five Year Plan clearly states that in the next five years, China will build offshore wind power bases in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and other sea areas, and promote the development of far-reaching offshore wind power in a standardized and orderly manner. By 2030, the cumulative grid connected scale of offshore wind power in China will reach 100 million kilowatts. Next, China will continuously improve the supporting construction of the entire industry chain, promote the high-quality development of offshore wind power, and assist in the green and low-carbon transformation of China's energy structure.Editor/Yang Meiling
