In Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, thousands of miles away from Xi'an, an energy revolution is accelerating under the scorching sun. As a key supporting facility for the country's first 220 MW large-scale wind solar energy storage hybrid power station, a 33/225kV substation, which connects the power station to the national power grid, is about to start construction. At this moment, Xi'an Xidian International Engineering Co., Ltd. and Istithmar West Africa (IWA) have officially signed a supply contract for the core transformer of the substation, marking the official integration of China's power transmission and transformation technology into Mauritania's green energy landscape.

A vote of confidence from Xi'an to West Africa

In Xi'an in April, a cross continental signing ceremony brought hands tightly between Shi Chen, General Manager of Xi'an Electric International, and Khalifa BEYAH, Vice President of IWA. For IWA, a developer promoting billions of Uygia level energy projects in West Africa, choosing Xidian International is not accidental. Khalifa BEYAH admitted at the signing ceremony that it was precisely because of Westinghouse's technological accumulation and global performance capabilities in the field of high-voltage transmission and transformation that they valued. He hopes that this cooperation can become a "stepping stone" for long-term cooperation between the two sides in the fields of power equipment and engineering general contracting.

Shi Chen sees this signing as a crucial step in deepening the development of the West African market. He promised that Xidian International will mobilize the most reliable product resources and technical service team to ensure the timely landing of this key "hub transformer" and provide "Chinese guarantee" for the stable operation of Mauritania's power grid.

A crucial electric heart

This seemingly cold 33/225kV transformer is actually an indispensable link in Mauritania's energy transformation chain. It undertakes the crucial task of voltage conversion and safely delivers clean electricity to the national backbone network.

Connecting the future energy hub: This transformer is the grid connected node of Mauritania's first 220 MW wind solar energy storage hybrid power station. This power station, led by IWA and integrating photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage, aims to solve the country's long-standing dependence on diesel power generation. The reliable operation of transformers directly determines whether green power can be smoothly connected to the grid. The intervention of Xidian International means that Chinese manufacturing is providing underlying support for the energy independence of West African countries.

The touchstone of technological strength: The 33/225kV voltage level is a backbone configuration in the African power grid. The successful delivery of this project will demonstrate the maturity of Chinese enterprises in high-voltage equipment manufacturing to neighboring countries such as Ghana and Nigeria, paving the way for Xidian International to win more transmission and transformation general contracting projects in West Africa in the future.

The power silk road of the the Belt and Road

The Mauritania project is not an isolated case of Xidian International in Africa, but an important milestone in its "African Chess Game". From Egypt to Ethiopia, from Ghana to Tanzania, Xidian International has already brought Chinese power standards and equipment to dozens of countries on the African continent.

From equipment export to standard output: Xidian International's strategy has evolved from simple equipment supply to a full chain service of "equipment+engineering+operation and maintenance". In Ethiopia, they provided over 700 kilometers of power supply for the electrified railway from Addis Ababa to Djibouti; In Nigeria, the 330kV transmission line project is improving the stability of the regional power grid. The significance of the Mauritania project is that it further consolidates the "circle of friends" of Chinese enterprises in the field of power infrastructure in the French speaking region of West Africa.

With the deepening of the the Belt and Road Initiative, enterprises like XD International are transforming China's power technology into a visible "light" in the African continent through specific substations and transmission lines. When Mauritania's transformers are electrified in the future, they will not only light up the local nights, but also illuminate a new path for China Africa capacity cooperation.Editor/Yang Meiling
