Henan Zhongfu Industrial, a leading player in the Chinese aluminum industry, is accelerating its global layout. Its $2 billion aluminum production complex project, which has been in deep negotiations with the Egyptian government, has attracted attention. The project is planned to be implemented in the Port Said Industrial Zone of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, covering an area of over 1 million square meters. It is expected to directly create 3000 job opportunities and focus on producing high value-added products such as battery foil and aviation aluminum plates, becoming a new benchmark for China Egypt heavy industry cooperation.

The key puzzle for upgrading Egypt's aluminum industry

Although Egypt has established companies such as Egyptian Aluminum, it still relies on imports for high-end aluminum plates and battery foils. The Zhongfu project will fill this gap, and its product positioning is highly aligned with Egypt's strategy of expanding export-oriented manufacturing. During the meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Madbli and representatives from Zhongfu, it was clearly supported that the project meets the needs of localized heavy industry development. Walid Jamaldin, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, pointed out that this is the first project of its kind in the Port of East Said, which will promote the transformation of Egypt's aluminum industry from primary processing to high added value, help upgrade downstream industries such as automobiles and packaging, and achieve import substitution.

Strategic leap of Zhongfu's cross-border layout

Henan Zhongfu Industry is affiliated with Henan Yulian Energy Group, with an existing electrolytic aluminum production capacity of 750000 tons (including 500000 tons of green hydropower aluminum and 250000 tons of thermal power aluminum), a deep processing capacity of 690000 tons, 150000 tons of carbon, 900000 kilowatts of electricity, and 2.25 million tons of coal. This Egypt project is a crucial step in its overseas production capacity layout. Unlike traditional low-end production capacity transfer, it targets high growth tracks such as battery foil and aviation aluminum plates, and achieves a leap from a domestic leader to a multinational group through technological output. If the project is implemented, it will strengthen Zhongfu's voice in the global aluminum industry chain, but it will need to address challenges such as policy changes, exchange rate fluctuations, and local supply chain maturity. The Zhongfu Egypt project is not only a milestone in the upgrading of the Egyptian aluminum industry, but also a microcosm of the global capacity rebalancing of China's aluminum industry. In geopolitical and market fluctuations, its high value-added oriented overseas strategy provides a new paradigm for the industry. As the project progresses, China Aluminum's technical standards and management experience will be deeply integrated into the Nile River, injecting lasting momentum into China Egypt industrial cooperation and helping both sides occupy a more advantageous position in the global aluminum industry chain. Bring the experience and standards of China's aluminum industry to the banks of the Nile River.Editor/Cheng Liting
