On May 18th, Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, held talks with Georgian Speaker Papashvili at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

  China is willing to work with Georgia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue the traditional friendship, strengthen cooperation and exchanges, and continuously enrich the connotation of the China Georgia strategic partnership.

Zhao Leji pointed out that the friendly cooperation between China and Georgia has profound historical origins, extensive practical needs, and a solid public opinion foundation. Both sides should continue to firmly support each other. China appreciates Georgia's long-term support for China's position on issues such as Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and human rights. China will continue to support Georgia's development path that is chosen by the people and in line with its own national conditions, and oppose external forces interfering in Georgia's internal affairs. Georgia is one of the first countries to respond to and participate in the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" cooperation. China is willing to adhere to mutual benefit and win-win situation with Georgia, share development opportunities, expand cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy and green energy, and support more powerful Chinese enterprises to invest and start business in Georgia. Both sides should deepen cultural exchanges, continue to strengthen cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and youth, and promote people to people connectivity. Strengthen multilateral cooperation, practice true multilateralism, and closely coordinate and cooperate within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations.

Zhao Leji emphasized that legislative exchanges play an important role in enhancing understanding and mutual trust, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, and consolidating people's friendship. The National People's Congress of China is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Georgian Parliament, strengthen friendly exchanges between specialized committees, bilateral friendship groups, NPC deputies and parliamentarians, and carry out exchanges and mutual learning on topics such as legislation, supervision work, sustainable development, and ecological civilization construction, in order to create a good legal environment for practical cooperation between the two sides and better assist in the development and revitalization of their respective countries. Papashvili stated that Georgia firmly adheres to the One China principle and is willing to work with China to continuously develop the strategic partnership between the two countries and jointly safeguard international law and order. Georgia is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", implement the upgraded free trade agreement, strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, culture, tourism, education and other fields, and promote connectivity. The Georgian parliament is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with the National People's Congress of China, enhance the popular support for the friendship between the two countries, and make legislative contributions to promoting the development of Georgian Chinese relations.
