Recently, GWEC released the "Global Wind Power Supply Side Data Report", which intuitively presents the explosive growth trend of the global wind power industry in 2025. Data shows that by 2025, the global wind power installed capacity will reach a historical peak of 178GW, a year-on-year increase of 40%. In this wave of green energy development, Chinese wind turbine manufacturers have shown their strength, for the first time taking all the top five seats in the global new installed capacity rankings.

According to the report, by 2025, a total of 23 wind turbine manufacturers worldwide will have installed 28395 units, a year-on-year increase of 23%. From the perspective of cumulative installed capacity, the leading position of top enterprises has become increasingly stable, with five companies successfully crossing the threshold of 100GW. Danish wind power giant Vestas successfully defended its top spot with a cumulative installed capacity of 201GW, becoming the world's first complete machine manufacturer to surpass 200GW in cumulative installed capacity; China's GOLDWIND followed closely behind with 163GW, ranking second in the world; Siemens Gamesa and General Electric Energy ranked third and fourth respectively; Envision has become the latest member of the 100GW club with a record of 103GW.

New addition to China's top enterprise rankings

In the newly installed market, Chinese companies have performed even more impressively. The Chinese army composed of GOLD WIND, Envision, Windey, MingYang Smart, and Sany Heavy Energy has unprecedentedly dominated the top five global new installed capacity rankings. Behind this impressive achievement is the strong support of China's local wind power market - by 2025, China's wind power lifting capacity will exceed 130GW, accounting for 67% of the global total.

Globalization gap highlights

Although Chinese companies are unstoppable in terms of installed capacity, Western giants still have a clear advantage in global layout. By 2025, Vestas will have installed wind turbines in 36 countries and regions worldwide, making it the most internationalized wind turbine manufacturer in the world. Compared to that, the total installed capacity of Chinese manufacturers in overseas markets last year was about 9.3GW, with the vast majority of orders concentrated in Asia, excluding the Chinese, Middle Eastern, and African markets. There is still significant room for improvement in penetration rates in the European and American markets.

Gearbox dominant technology

In terms of technological roadmap, 2025 is undoubtedly the world of gearbox technology. The global average power of wind turbines has exceeded 6MW for the first time, with offshore wind turbines reaching an average power of 10.3MW. Specifically, the market share of medium speed technology has soared to 37%, and with the addition of traditional high-speed transmission technology, the global market share of gear transmission routes has reached 95.6%, while the market share of direct drive technology has further decreased to 4.4%.

Ben Barkwell, CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council, pointed out that the wind power industry has demonstrated strong development resilience after overcoming difficulties such as supply chain disruptions. But to shoulder the heavy responsibility of global energy transformation, governments around the world still need to simplify the approval process for wind power projects, accelerate the progress of power grid construction, and clear obstacles for the further outbreak of the wind power industry. The relevant data for 2025 not only confirms the global competitiveness of China's wind power industry chain, but also exposes the current situation of Chinese enterprises being strong domestically and weak overseas. The global new installed capacity of 178GW is exciting, but Vestas' global layout in 36 countries also warns us that a truly world-class wind power enterprise not only needs a solid domestic market foundation, but also needs to break through geopolitical barriers; Not only should we achieve product export, but we should also promote the deep penetration of supply chain, product certification, and localized services. With the comprehensive victory of the semi direct drive technology route, the focus of competition in the future wind power industry will no longer be on the size of wind turbines, but on who can more efficiently and economically establish a foothold in the complex and ever-changing international market.Editor/Gong Ziwei
