On May 22, 2026, the announcement of the completion of the installation of process pipelines for the air separation, methane liquefaction, and LNG engineering units of the Zhundong 2 billion cubic meter coal to natural gas project of Xinjiang Tianchi Energy Co., Ltd. was released, and Shandong Zhibo Construction Labor Co., Ltd. won the bid. On May 19th, the candidates for the civil engineering project were announced, and Xinjiang Hongshunda Construction Labor Service Co., Ltd. ranked first. The total investment of the project is 17 billion yuan, and it is expected to be fully put into operation in 2027.

Fixed bed slag gasification demonstration

The project innovation adopts a fixed bed slag gasification process, and plans to use a large fixed bed slag gasification furnace with a gasification pressure of 4.5 megapascals and an inner diameter of 3.8 meters. The methane content in the effective gas of this technology can reach about 8%, which can reduce the processing capacity of subsequent processes. At the same time, a 900000 ton annual carbon capture device will be constructed, of which 700000 tons will be built in the factory and 200000 tons will be built based on engineering support.

Industrialization of Autonomous Methanation Technology

The project plans to conduct a large-scale industrial demonstration of independent methane conversion technology, using a wide temperature shift and series parallel connection of methane reactors to increase the scale of the methane conversion unit from the largest single series of 1.375 billion cubic meters in operation to 2 billion cubic meters per year. By reasonably distributing the fresh gas entering different levels of reactors, energy conservation and production increase can be achieved in the methane unit. Green electricity hydrogen production multi energy coupling system

The project is accompanied by the construction of a wind power new energy project, ensuring that the green power consumption of other devices is not less than 51%. Supporting the construction of an electrolytic water hydrogen production system, building a multi energy coupling system of light, electricity, hydrogen, and carbon, and achieving a reduction of over 30% in carbon emissions intensity throughout the entire coal chemical process.
