On May 23, 2026, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) conducted the world's first 537 day 10000 meter deep-sea material corrosion test under the leadership of the 725th Institute. This experiment broke the world record for the duration of similar experiments worldwide, marking a key leap in China's deep-sea in-situ testing technology from full depth coverage to full cycle mastery.

The experiment comprehensively demonstrated the core support provided by this breakthrough for the evolution of deep-sea equipment material performance, optimization of corrosion margins, and improvement of protective processes through exploring and recovering test materials, interpreting the value of rare long-term measured data worldwide, and introducing a 10000 meter deep-sea simulation test device upgraded based on this data. This achievement will provide a key data foundation for the research and development of deep-sea equipment in China.Editor/Gao Xue
