The Shengli Jiyang Shale Oil Demonstration Zone is mainly located in Shandong Province, with a distribution area of 7300 square kilometers, and achieved a breakthrough in exploration in 2021. Since 2026, the construction of production capacity in the demonstration zone has been comprehensively accelerated, with the continuous emergence of high-yield wells and steady increase in production. The Liye 106HF well, which was just put into operation in 2026, can produce 110 tons of crude oil per day. In the first four months of 2026, a total of 10 high-yield wells were put into operation in the demonstration zone, with a cumulative shale oil production of 14000 tons, an increase of 15% compared to the same period in 2025.

Yang Yong, the head of the Jiyang shale oil team at Sinopec Shengli Oilfield, stated that after multiple rounds of technological iteration, the drilling cycle of the 6000 meter ultra deep well has been successfully compressed from 133 days to 17 days, with an average single well oil production exceeding 43000 tons and a domestication rate of over 95% for core mining equipment.

Unlike conventional oil, shale oil is stored in tight rock crevices and cannot flow naturally. It is generally buried deeper and has scattered oil layers, making it a recognized world-class challenge in the global oil and gas exploration and development field. The research team has overcome more than 40 key technologies through independent innovation, innovatively formed a shale oil exploration and development theory suitable for continental fault basins, pioneered the "storage fracture pressure" development technology system, successfully transformed 90% of the shale oil resources in the region that were originally difficult to use into high-quality reserves that can be effectively exploited, and successively discovered three billion ton oil fields.

As of now, the Shengli Jiyang Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone has reported a cumulative proven reserve of 327 million tons and an estimated resource of 10.5 billion tons, which is equivalent to discovering a new large-scale oilfield on the basis of the original production capacity of Shengli Oilfield. This has laid a solid resource foundation for stable and increased crude oil production and energy strategy succession in eastern China.
