A notice from the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport shook the Central Asian infrastructure circle. As President Mirziyoyev finished listening to the report, a modern transportation artery led by Chinese enterprises has officially entered the countdown. This is not only one of the largest highway investment projects in the country's history, but also a key milestone for Chinese capital and technology to deeply participate in the reconstruction of logistics in Central Asia.

The winning bid amount is nearly 2.2 billion US dollars

After fierce competition, a Chinese company won the right to construct the Tashkent Samarkand toll road with a total bid of 2.185 billion US dollars. According to Ukrainian Minister of Transport Mahkamov, all preliminary preparations have been completed, and the EPC general contract is scheduled to be signed in June 2026. The entire project will officially start construction in July 2026.

Building Top Highways in Central Asia

This 282 kilometer I-a class highway has extremely high design standards, with a two-way six lane cement concrete pavement and a designed speed of up to 150 kilometers per hour. The project includes 12 interchanges, 91 bridges, and an intelligent transportation system. After completion, it will shorten the commuting time between the two places by 2 to 2.5 times, greatly alleviating the overload operation pressure of the existing lines. Construction of syndicated financing guarantee

The project adopts a diversified financing model of "foreign capital+domestic capital", of which 85% of the funds, about 1.857 billion US dollars, come from three financial institutions including the Export Import Bank of China, and the remaining 15% is borne by the Ukrainian budget. To ensure that the construction progress is not affected by the funding chain, both parties have specially arranged a $200 million transitional bridge loan.Editor/Gao Xue
