The Hanoi Metro Line 2A extension project is about to launch market consultation, with an initial investment of over 1.5 billion US dollars, which is a key step in expanding the Vietnamese capital's rail transit network. The Hanoi Metro Management Committee is scheduled to hold an early market negotiation meeting from June 18th to 19th to solicit opinions from domestic and foreign enterprises before the official bidding, marking the project's transition from planning to substantive promotion stage.

20 kilometer extension directly connected to Chunmei Satellite City

The 2A line extension project has a total length of about 20 kilometers and runs along the elevated section of the expanding National Highway 6. It has 12 elevated stations, equipped with 13 four car trains, and a new vehicle depot covering an area of 8.3 hectares will be constructed near Chunmei Station. This project is a core component of the first phase of Hanoi's third phase urban railway development plan, which will significantly improve the transportation connection between the city center and the southwest urban area, especially leading to the Chunmei Satellite City, which is being developed as a western gateway urban area.

Chinese standards create full industry chain output

The original 2A line was Vietnam's first urban rail transit, which opened for operation in 2021. It is 13.05 kilometers long and has 12 elevated stations. It adopts the full standard and industrial chain of China's rail transit - China Railway Sixth Bureau EPC construction, Beijing Railway Rolling Stock Corporation provides vehicles, and Beijing Urban Construction Institute designs. The extension project continues this mode, adopts 1435mm standard gauge, the maximum speed is 80 to 100 kilometers per hour, 750 V DC third rail power supply, and the signal system integrates CBTC, ATP and CBI.

Led by AIIB

The project is expected to be financed through AIIB loans and matching funds from the Vietnamese government. MRB solicited opinions on design proposals, contract packaging strategies, risk allocation mechanisms, and technical management plans through EME, laying the foundation for subsequent formal bidding. Keywords: Rail Transit, Infrastructure

This route is not only a transportation project, but also a strategic support for Hanoi's expansion to the southwest. With the accelerated development of the Chunmei Satellite City, the rail transit connecting the city center and the western gateway will reshape the urban development pattern.Editor/Cheng Liting
