In the planning room of the Al Taweelah energy hub in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the China Energy Engineering project team is verifying the final equipment parameters with representatives from EWEC, the United Arab Emirates Water and Electricity Company. Outside the window, two gas power plants that have already been put into operation are steadily delivering electricity, and their upcoming 2.6 gigawatt new project will add another crucial step to the energy map of this desert region.
A large $1.7 billion order falls in the Middle East
On June 13, 2026, the China Energy Engineering Consortium officially signed the EPC contract for the Taweelah C independent power station in Abu Dhabi, with a project amount of 1.7 billion US dollars.

As the general EPC contractor, the enterprise will undertake the full chain services of design, equipment supply, civil engineering installation, etc. for the 2.6 GW combined cycle gas turbine power plant, with an overall construction period of 32 months. This is the largest single electricity order won by a Chinese energy engineering company in the Gulf region in 2026.
Multinational consortium collaborates to promote projects
This project is authorized for development by EWEC, with partners including multinational corporations such as Saudi Arabia's Aljomaih and Singapore's Shengke Industries.

Relying on the consortium structure led by TAQA, China Energy Construction will integrate global supply chain resources and deeply collaborate with all parties in technology adaptation, progress control, and other aspects. This diversified cooperation model has become the mainstream path for upgrading energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
High end market tests China's strength
The Al Taweelah area currently has 3.9 gigawatts of gas installed capacity and large-scale seawater desalination facilities, and this expansion highlights the continuous growth of local energy demand. Keywords: Middle East news and information, power infrastructure

China Energy Construction won the bid with its full industry chain service capability, marking a further increase in the recognition of China's energy infrastructure brand in the high-end market of the Middle East. With the implementation of the project, the company will further deepen its long-term cooperation with regional multinational enterprises and improve its overseas production capacity layout.Editor/Gao Xue
