The boom of industrial construction on the Gobi Desert continues to surge, and the Liugou Coal Chemical Industry Park in Guazhou County has reached a key development node. On June 30, 2026, the first phase of the local large-scale integrated demonstration project was completed by CCCC and the second phase of construction was launched. The chain main project with a total investment of 24 billion yuan has landed in the Gobi Desert, relying on the location conditions of Xinjiang Coal East Transport to connect the circular industry chain, synchronously layout the supporting facilities of wind and solar new energy, and open up a new path for the clean utilization of low-grade coal in Hexi region. Multiple government and enterprises have joined hands to tackle the construction difficulties in the Gobi Desert and accelerate the green transformation of the energy industry.  

Industrial layout

The project is located in Liugou Coal Chemical Industry Park, Guazhou, Jiuquan. It is a provincial-level key billion level chain main project, and aims to create a dual industry chain of coal, electricity, oil and gas, and hydrogen energy that complement each other. Multiple sets of raw coal pyrolysis, tar hydrogenation, and negative electrode material coke production facilities are planned for the coal, electricity, oil, and gas sector, along with a complete set of auxiliary facilities such as sewage and air and nitrogen stations; Two 500 MW wind farms and photovoltaic power stations are planned for the hydrogen energy multi energy complementary sector, achieving deep coupling between traditional coal chemical industry and wind solar resources. The details of hydrogen energy supporting facilities will be announced later.  

Project advancement

The project was fully coordinated and constructed by Spang Technology, and the team overcame multiple obstacles in the supply of wind, sand, and cold equipment, successfully achieving the key milestone of phase one delivery.
