On July 2, 2026, the fourth phase of the 500 kV Ezhou Power Plant external transmission project was officially completed and began power transmission. This is another core backbone power grid project that will be put into operation during the peak summer season in Hubei in 2026, directly filling the power transmission gap caused by the high load growth in the southeastern region of Hubei.

The project involves the construction of nearly 55 kilometers of double circuit transmission lines and the installation of 138 iron towers. Under full load operation, the annual power transmission capacity can reach 9.2 billion kilowatt hours.

The key reinforcement of the power grid structure in southeastern Hubei has been completed

Previously, the electricity demand for the Optics Valley Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, Gedian Economic Development Zone, Huahu Airport, and big data computing power cluster in the southeastern Hubei region continued to rise. The transmission capacity of the original 500 kV backbone network was close to saturation, and there were obvious shortcomings in the pressure bearing capacity of the power grid during extreme high temperature periods.

After the new project is put into operation, the structural redundancy of the regional backbone power grid has been greatly improved. It can not only stably receive the newly added external power transmission from Ezhou Power Plant, but also quickly allocate cross regional power resources during peak electricity consumption periods, and significantly enhance its ability to cope with extreme working conditions such as continuous high temperatures and sudden load increases.

The construction of Hubei's peak summer power grid has entered a period of concentrated completion

As of now, State Grid Hubei Electric Power has successively completed a number of key projects such as Jingmen East 500 kV transmission and transformation, Gangdu 500 kV main transformer expansion, and Jiangxia 500 kV main transformer expansion.

The province has added a total of 995 kilometers of transmission lines and 8.4 million kVA of new transformer capacity. After these projects are put into operation, they will lay a solid hardware foundation for the stable power supply in Hubei this summer, and also reserve sufficient power space for the continuous expansion of the regional computing power industry and science and technology innovation industry in the future.Editor/Cheng Liting
