Under the sky of Southwest Africa, the scorching sun is roasting the Namib Desert and illuminating the cracks in the energy map. When the power shortage is tearing apart the desire for industrialization, the distant Eastern heavy machinery is trying to take root in the wilderness. This is not only a migration of devices, but also a transition from simple sales to full chain symbiosis, rewriting the footnotes of Sino foreign cooperation in the dry wind.

China and Nepal sign energy joint venture agreement

On July 10, 2026, during the visit of the President of Namibia to China, the local Okapawa Investment Company signed a contract with China's Sany Energy Equipment to establish a joint venture in the fields of clean energy and oil and gas. The cooperation includes local production, technology transfer, talent cultivation, and other aspects. This cooperation integrates new energy and oil and gas supporting businesses, and Chinese enterprises are shifting their cooperation from single equipment sales to full chain localized services.

On the same day of signing, the two countries issued a joint statement, upgrading it to a new era China Nepal community with a shared future, covering cooperation in multiple fields such as energy, minerals, infrastructure, science and education, and enterprise cooperation in line with national strategies. Namibia is vigorously promoting investment and industrialization, but details such as project investment amount, factory site, and production time have not yet been announced. Only a cooperation framework has been reached, and there are currently no landing projects, sending a signal that the local area welcomes the landing of Chinese energy technology.

Multiple market demands support cooperation

Namibia has a severe shortage of electricity supply, with only 140MW of stable capacity available in 2024, far below peak electricity consumption, and nearly 60% of its electricity relies on imports. There is an urgent need for integrated energy storage, transmission, and operation and maintenance solutions in the local area. There are vast markets for photovoltaics, wind power, industrial and commercial energy storage, and long-term operation and maintenance.

Namibia has discovered a large amount of crude oil and plans to become the fourth largest oil producing country in Africa by 2030. The demand for power supply, equipment maintenance, and low-carbon supporting facilities in oil and gas camps has surged. The enterprise is synchronously laying out new energy and oil and gas businesses, with customers covering mining areas, ports, industrial parks, and oil and gas bases. Localization is the core evaluation criterion for projects. The China Namibia statement encourages deep processing of minerals, local employment, and industrial construction. Namibia has set targets for hydrogen and green ammonia industries, and future bidding will not only consider equipment prices, but also local training, component matching, and assembly capacity as important assessment indicators. Localization layout ideas of Chinese enterprises

One is to distinguish various energy orders and verify the requirements of owners, grid connection, and operation and maintenance in advance; Secondly, refine the localization landing list, clarify personnel training and spare parts warehouse landing planning; The third is to first develop light asset businesses such as maintenance and energy storage, and then invest in building local assembly lines after stabilizing. At present, the details of the project are still to be disclosed. Chinese enterprises that coordinate the development of energy, minerals, and local manufacturing in Namibia, while also considering equipment output and local industry cultivation, will have a cooperative advantage.Editor/Gong Ziwei
