On July 20, 2026, the first external power transmission channel in Beijing during the 15th Five Year Plan period, the West Joint Venture Fangshan 500 kV transmission line project, officially began construction. This power transmission artery, which starts in Zhangjiakou and ends in Fangshan, with a total length of 184.7 kilometers, is expected to add 1 million kilowatts of transmission capacity after being put into operation in the first half of 2028, allowing wind and light from Hebei Bashang to flow into the capital more smoothly.

184.7 kilometers of green corridor

The route starts from Xijiaojing Town, Zhangjiakou, Hebei and ends at Yancun Town, Fangshan, Beijing. The total length of new construction and renovation of the project is 184.7 kilometers, including 21.2 kilometers in the Beijing section. 54 new iron towers will be built, 52 old ones will be demolished, and protection renovations and reactor upgrades will be implemented for two 500 kV substations in Fangshan and Xinhangcheng. This is another key puzzle of the Beijing power grid's three-dimensional cross double ring network.

At present, Beijing Power Grid has built 13 28 circuit 500 kV external power receiving channels, forming an AC/DC expanded double loop network supported by the Beijing Ring Ultra High Voltage and surrounding large-scale energy bases. After the project is put into operation, it can effectively strengthen the structural shortcomings of the southwestern power grid in Beijing, enhance the safety operation margin and fault resistance ability of the capital power grid.

Subtraction and addition of 1 million kilowatts

The core value of engineering lies in one plus one minus. Subtraction is to reduce the transmission pressure on the existing channel from Datong to Fangshan in Shanxi, and the surplus transmission capacity will be released; Addition refers to the addition of 1 million kilowatts of clean power capacity from Hebei, further strengthening the cross regional mutual assistance and supply guarantee level of the Beijing Tianjin Hebei power grid.

Due to the involvement of multiple high-voltage transmission lines in operation in Hebei and Beijing, the construction difficulty is extremely high. The State Grid Beijing Electric Power Construction Team will ensure the balance between construction and residential electricity use through staggered construction, overlapping reconstruction, and grid mode switching. Keywords: kV line engineering, ultra-high voltage

Based on the new pattern of energy development in the 15th Five Year Plan period, State Grid Beijing Electric Power is taking the construction of the power grid as the main line, coordinating the layout of five 500 kV cross provincial power receiving channel projects, including the West Joint Venture Fangshan project, and synchronously promoting the key project of "Jidian Entering Beijing" DC ultra-high voltage with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts, to build a stronger, smarter, and greener capital power grid.Editor/Cheng Liting
