On December 1, 2026, when the first international flight touches down at Long Thanh International Airport, the aviation congestion that has been hovering over Ho Chi Minh City for decades will experience a structural easing. The largest airport project in Vietnam is progressing at a countdown pace, and the airport headquarters has officially proposed to lock in the commercial operation date on December 1st. The initial routes will fly directly to major cities in China, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Tongna Province has simultaneously invested nearly 12 trillion Vietnamese dong and approximately 3.47 billion yuan to build and upgrade 111 kilometers of connecting roads. This southern economic engine is recalibrating its geographical coordinates.

Terminal completed 67%

The core hardware of the first phase of the Longcheng Airport project is being delivered intensively. The construction volume of the first runway, taxiway, and apron has reached nearly 91% of the total contract value, and the runway system is basically completed. The technical test flight was completed in December 2025, and it is expected to be fully completed by the end of July. The construction progress of the passenger terminal apron has reached 90%, and the aircraft fuel supply system has been completed by 88%. The second runway base and cement concrete structure have been fully completed.

As the passenger terminal building at the heart of the airport, the construction progress has exceeded 67%, and the main building is expected to be completed by September 2026, followed by equipment installation and trial operation. To ensure synchronous operation by the end of the year, the internal transportation, technical infrastructure, management system, parking building, and No.1 cargo terminal of the airport are being promoted simultaneously. ACV has requested the contractor to deploy approximately 2000 additional construction personnel to ensure commercial operation conditions by the end of the year.

111 kilometers of roads and a supporting network worth 3.47 billion yuan

The airport operation is only the first half of the story, the second half is about the transportation network being developed in Tongna Province. The new construction and upgrading project, with a total investment of nearly 12 trillion Vietnamese dong and a total length of over 111 kilometers, will directly connect National Highways 1, 51, and 56 with Longcheng Airport and Ho Chi Minh City's Fourth Ring Road. The Ho Chi Minh City Long Thanh Yau Tsim Sha Tsui Expressway has been fully opened in 2025, reducing the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City center to Long Thanh Airport to less than one hour. After being put into operation, this network will lock industrial zones, ports, and airports into a closed-loop system, and the outline of logistics centers is becoming more concrete.Editor/Cheng Liting
