In the hinterland of the Dabie Mountains, a water magic is about to take place. Amidst the towering peaks of Huoshan, a giant power bank is emerging from the ground. With the deployment of two major power construction giants, the dormant mountain streams have turned into surging momentum, injecting strong confidence into the green transformation of Anhui power grid.

The project has reached a turning point in construction

On July 26, 2026, the National Energy Group announced the results of the bidding candidates for the main project of Anhui Huoshan Pumped Storage Power Station. The total investment of this project is 7.5 billion yuan. After years of preparation since its approval in October 2022, it has officially entered the comprehensive construction stage. The two core bid sections were won by leading companies from China Energy Engineering and China Electric Power Construction, with overall low bids and minimal price differences, indicating a stable industry landscape.

Excellent overall project overview

The power station is located in Foziling Town, Huoshan County, Lu'an. It relies on the natural river channel drop to build upper and lower reservoirs, with a storage capacity of 9.3 million cubic meters each. The total installed capacity of the project is 1200MW, with 4 reversible units and an annual power generation of 1.2 billion kilowatt hours. As the core peak shaving power source in the region, it mainly undertakes functions such as power grid peak shaving, valley filling, frequency regulation, and backup, and builds a solid foundation for the safety of Anhui power grid. The project is jointly established by Guoneng Shenwan Energy and Anhui Energy Co., Ltd., responsible for the entire investment, construction, and operation process.

Clear division of labor between the two major sections

This bidding is divided into two main civil engineering sections, excluding mechanical and electrical installation. Section 1 is the upper reservoir and water diversion system project, while Section 2 is the lower reservoir and underground powerhouse cavern group project. The project will commence on August 1, 2026 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2030, with a construction period of four years. Section 1: Hydropower Bureau 5 is the first, followed by Hydropower Bureau 4, with a price difference of only 600000 yuan; Section 2: Gezhouba Group leads the way, followed closely by Water and Electricity Sixth Bureau, with a price difference of only 360000 yuan. The installed capacity of wind and solar new energy in Anhui continues to grow, and the pressure of peak shaving in the power grid is prominent.
