On July 26, 2026, Al Tayeh, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, led a delegation to London to hold talks with two global infrastructure investment giants, ING and Actis, after concluding his trip to Paris. During their previous trip to Paris, the delegation had discussed cooperation opportunities in the fields of renewable energy, green hydrogen energy, and advanced seawater desalination with French energy giants such as EDF, TotalEnergies, and Engie. From Paris to London, this utility giant from the Middle East is systematically pushing its world-class operational experience into the global market.

Establishing an international subsidiary to expand globally

On June 21, 2026, Sheikh Ahmed, Chairman of Dubai's Supreme Energy Council, officially announced the establishment of DEWA International as a wholly-owned independent subsidiary with the core mission of exporting Dubai's mature electricity and water infrastructure model to global markets, developing, financing, delivering, and operating electricity and water projects worldwide. Altaye stated in London that the establishment of DEWA International aims to strengthen Dubai's global position and promote DEWA's validated professional capabilities to the international market. It is reported that the relevant work has been fully launched, including exploring opportunities, establishing project reserves, and establishing strategic partnerships.

Thirteen world firsts establish confidence

DEWA dares to promote its operational model globally, based on solid global leading performance. DEWA currently ranks first globally in thirteen key performance indicators for public utility services: its power supply reliability has set a world record for the average number of minutes a user experiences power outages per year, with only 0.82 minutes or approximately 49 seconds; The loss of the power transmission and distribution network is only 2%, which is the lowest in the world; The loss of water transmission and distribution is 4.4%, ranking among the lowest in the world; The reliability and availability of Dubai's power system exceed 99.99%. These numbers are the result of decades of continuous investment and technological accumulation by DEWA, which not only outputs funds and engineering investment, but also a set of long-term validated public utility operation standards. Dubai's energy transition provides a model

Clean energy currently accounts for over 21.5% of Dubai's energy structure, and is expected to increase to 36% by 2030, higher than the initial plan of 25%. The core support for achieving this goal is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single site solar park, which adopts an independent power generation model and combines photovoltaic and concentrated solar energy technology with energy storage and green hydrogen production. The production capacity target of the solar park has also been significantly increased, expected to exceed 8 gigawatts by 2030, compared to the initial target of 5000 megawatts, which will help Dubai reduce over 8.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually. The mission of DEWA International is to replicate the technology, experience, and models accumulated during this transformation process to more markets worldwide.Editor/Gao Xue
