Starting from Hami, Xinjiang, this 2260 kilometer energy artery spans across 5 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, converting wind and light from the Gobi Desert into a continuous stream of clean electricity that is delivered to factories, data centers, and thousands of households in mountainous cities. The Xinjiang Electricity to Chongqing Project has a total length of 2260 kilometers, spanning five provinces and municipalities including Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing. As one of the important channels for China's West East power transmission, this project will convert the abundant wind and solar energy resources in Hami, Xinjiang into stable electricity and directly deliver it to the Chongqing load center.

As of July 20, 2026, the cumulative power transmission of the project has exceeded 30 billion kilowatt hours, reaching 30.174 billion kilowatt hours, with a maximum daily power transmission of 145 million kilowatt hours. During the peak summer season, the maximum transmission power of the project is 6 million kilowatts, which can bear about one-fifth of the peak electricity load of Chongqing's power grid and become a key support for ensuring Chongqing's summer power supply.

The operation and maintenance personnel of the ± 800 kV Barkol converter station rely on digital control methods such as fully automatic inspection, valve hall infrared temperature measurement, and intelligent security monitoring to continuously monitor the operation status of core equipment such as valve towers and cooling systems 24 hours a day.
