The wind in the Kubuqi Desert brushes over the photovoltaic panel array and is delivering green power to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region, over 1000 kilometers away, along newly constructed iron tower poles. The 500 kV transmission line project from Mengxi to Shagehuang in Beijing Tianjin Hebei has recently started construction in Dalate Banner, Ordos. This 387 kilometer energy artery will completely open up a fast track for the direct transmission of 12 million kilowatts of new energy from the Kubuqi Desert to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in August 2027.

Building a new framework for green power transmission through 10 lines

The project is jointly constructed by two power supply units under Inner Mongolia Electric Power Group, and plans to build 10 new 500 kV transmission lines, all of which will land in Dalate Banner. It is a landmark project to improve the Mengxi ultra-high voltage grid structure.

The project team completed all on-site surveys and optimized drawings ahead of schedule, established a full process control mechanism for weekly meetings and monthly summaries, and coordinated the deployment of nearly 2000 construction personnel and more than 300 large machinery to lay a solid foundation for the subsequent line laying.

Cross provincial consumption enhances energy supply capacity

Previously, there was a shortage of on-site power consumption in some parts of the Kubuqi Desert New Energy Base. After this line is put into operation, it will directly provide strong grid support for the Mengxi to Beijing Tianjin Hebei DC project, greatly improving the inter provincial and inter regional dispatching capacity of regional new energy.

After the project is implemented, it can deliver over 30 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region annually, equivalent to replacing about 9 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 24 million tons.
