A batch of mining cooperation agreements have landed in New Valley Province, Egypt, and a $930 million integrated phosphate mining project has been officially launched, promoting the transformation of local resource deep processing. Several Chinese phosphate chemical companies have already laid out their presence in the Egyptian market.

Project Scale Overview

The Mineral Resources and Mining Industry Administration has signed a memorandum of understanding with Genesis Mining to develop a complete phosphate mining industry chain project in New Valley Province, with a total investment of approximately 930 million US dollars and phased investments. The project plans to have a maximum annual output of 20 million tons of phosphate ore, with a supporting capacity of 4 million tons of phosphate ore concentrate. It can produce 500000 tons of phosphoric acid and 500000 tons of phosphate chemical products. The project will simultaneously carry out large-scale geological drilling and improve the mineral reserve database. Genesis Mining will collaborate with multiple institutions to advance financing, exploration, and process evaluation work.

Accelerate the transformation of local industries

Egypt has the third largest phosphate reserves in the world, with proven reserves of approximately 2.8 billion tons. For a long time, domestic phosphate ore has been mainly exported as raw ore, with low added value of products. The Egyptian government is promoting mining reform, encouraging private capital to participate in resource development, with the goal of continuously increasing the proportion of mining in the gross domestic product. This integrated project builds a complete industrial chain from mining to phosphate fertilizer, changes the extensive export mode, takes into account domestic agricultural demand and external exports, and helps Egypt move towards a highland of phosphate chemical industry.

Chinese enterprises take the lead in market layout

The Egyptian phosphate chemical industry has welcomed multiple Chinese companies. Chuanjinnuo plans a $1 billion Suez phosphate chemical project, with the first phase of the project set to commence in 2026. China State Construction Engineering Corporation participated in the construction of the $848 million Abu Dhabi Phosphate Plant project, which is a leading overseas scale phosphate chemical general contracting project. Xingfa Group plans to invest 2 billion US dollars to build a full industry chain project and lay out high-end phosphorus chemical products. Numerous projects have been implemented, confirming that the North African phosphorus resource market is becoming a key layout area for domestic and foreign enterprises. Keywords: Egyptian phosphate ore, phosphate chemical industry

Relying on abundant phosphate resources, Egypt continues to improve its deep processing industry system and strives to become a core region in the global phosphate chemical industry. With the promotion of local projects and the continuous entry of foreign investment, the competitive landscape of the North African phosphate industry chain is gradually taking shape, and Chinese phosphate chemical enterprises that have landed early will continue to seize regional development opportunities.Editor/Min Jing
