Early in the morning, on the mudflat of Haiyang, Shandong, power construction personnel carried out preparations for aerial work. The project safety director instructed the construction personnel to pay attention to high-altitude safety and ensure heatstroke prevention. The construction of the sea area section is coming to a close, and the staff are installing spacer bars. The 1000 kV Haiyang Xin'an Nuclear Power Transmission Ultra High Voltage Project is the world's first ultra-high voltage line serving nuclear power transmission, and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in October 2026.

Project Overview

This project is also the first ultra-high voltage project in China to carry out offshore construction. The starting point of the line is Xin'an Town in Haiyang, and the endpoint is Tuanwang Town in Laiyang. The total length of the line is 80.361 kilometers, and it is constructed using a double circuit. 161 iron towers are installed along the entire line, including 17 sea towers, with a total length of 11.2 kilometers for the sea line. The project will start construction in June 2025 and is currently in its final sprint phase.

Overcoming multiple challenges in maritime construction

The project chief engineer is rooted in the frontline site. This construction team has participated in multiple major power projects, but the construction of ultra-high voltage in the sea area is a new challenge. The construction team seizes the window period and fully promotes the construction. The ultra-high voltage transmission lines in the sea face multiple challenges such as salt spray corrosion, special geology, and variable sea winds. The construction team innovatively developed multiple technologies, formed a complete construction plan, and accumulated practical experience for similar sea area ultra-high voltage projects. Empowering regional energy transformation through operation

After the completion of the project, it will be connected to the Shandong power grid and jointly build the first provincial ultra-high voltage dual ring network with Yanwei High Voltage in the province. The project aims to connect the Jiaodong nuclear power and offshore new energy transmission channels, improve the Shandong ultra-high voltage network, optimize the allocation of power resources within the province, enhance power supply guarantee capabilities, and assist in the green and low-carbon transformation of regional energy.Editor/Gong Ziwei
