In the past, goods from Xiamen Port needed to be transported over long distances to connect with railways, which was a cumbersome, time-consuming, and labor-intensive process. The new sea rail intermodal special line has been launched, completely eliminating transportation bottlenecks in the port area, achieving direct connection between vehicles and ships, significantly reducing logistics efficiency and lowering transportation costs for enterprises, injecting new momentum into regional logistics upgrading.

The advantages of dedicated lines are prominent
On July 29, 2026, China COSCO Shipping Xiamen Far Sea Terminal officially put into operation the country's first vertical shoreline direct terminal sea rail intermodal special line. This dedicated line has a total length of 1586 meters, with a designed annual container throughput of 250000 TEUs and an annual throughput of 250000 tons for general cargo. The dedicated line adopts a vertical shoreline layout, breaking away from the traditional three-stage transfer mode and achieving seamless connection between sea and rail. Previously, goods in the port area needed to be transferred to a railway station 20 kilometers away. Now, all transfer links have been eliminated, and the comprehensive logistics cost has been reduced by more than 15%. The logistics time has been shortened by two to three days, greatly improving the efficiency of freight turnover. Keywords: Xiamen Port, sea rail intermodal line

Rising radiation energy levels
Xiamen Far Sea Port has 21 ocean routes connecting the world, coupled with a complete inland railway network, which can radiate to inland areas such as Jiangxi, Hubei, and Chengdu. In the first half of 2026, the volume of Xiamen Port's sea rail intermodal transportation business increased by 35.76% year-on-year. After the dedicated line is put into operation, the hinterland of port cargo sources is further expanded to the southern Fujian Golden Triangle, Hunan, eastern Guangdong and other regions, successfully building a three-dimensional logistics system that connects the world by sea and Asia Europe by land, effectively supporting the high-quality development of regional foreign trade economy and multimodal transport industry.Editor/Min Jing
