In the Shangku High tech Zone of Korla, Xinjiang, 35000 acres of deep blue polycarbonate sheets spread out on the Gobi Desert, forming a blue ocean. A 34.4-kilometer dedicated transmission line directly sends the green electricity generated by the 1.3 million kilowatt photovoltaic project to the ethylene production workshop of Dushanzi Petrochemical, bypassing the layers of transfer in the public power grid. This is not an isolated case. When the national new energy installed capacity continues to soar and the problem of consumption repeatedly becomes a pain point in the industry, Xinjiang has provided a solution to the problem of green power direct connection and incremental distribution network through a bottom-up practice. As of the end of June 2026, the installed capacity of new energy in Xinjiang has reached 173 million kilowatts, accounting for 65%, and direct connection of green electricity is becoming a key breakthrough in digesting these clean power sources.

Three types of precise surgical scenarios

At the beginning of 2026, the Xinjiang Development and Reform Commission issued a policy document on direct connection of green power, establishing the principle of determining the source based on load - reverse planning of new energy installation and energy storage configuration according to the actual electricity demand of end users, achieving synchronous construction of source and load. Three priority scenarios are identified for the existing market: enterprises with coal-fired self owned power plants using green voltage to reduce thermal power output, export-oriented enterprises responding to international carbon tariffs, and national zero carbon park load substitution. In April 2026, the first batch of four green power direct connection projects in Xinjiang were officially launched, with a total installed capacity of 630000 kilowatts of new energy, covering high energy industries such as coal chemical, refining, and oil and gas extraction. The Shaya Fuman block of Tarim Oilfield has completed the construction of 100000 kilowatts of photovoltaic power and 20 megawatts/80 megawatt hours of energy storage, which will be directly transmitted to the oilfield stations through dedicated lines, achieving green substitution of electricity for oil and gas production.

Mode evolves from one-to-one to multi-user

The direct connection of green electricity in Xinjiang has not remained in the primary form of one-on-one. In May 2026, the first batch of multi-user green power direct connection projects will be launched: a total of 160000 kilowatts of wind power installations will be installed in Hami Yiwu Computational Innovation Demonstration Zone and Karama Evian Computing Industrial Park, and multiple data centers will be powered simultaneously through a unified green power channel. The power consumption curve of the data center is gentle, with high annual utilization hours and extremely high compatibility with green power direct connection. After the completion of the two projects, they can consume about 263 million kilowatt hours of green power annually. More imaginative is the exploration of off grid type - in the second batch of nearby consumption projects in Xinjiang, the Yiwu County wind solar ionization network hydrogen production integration project is eye-catching: 690000 kilowatts of wind solar complementary installed capacity combined with large capacity energy storage, the entire process is not connected to the public power grid, 100% of the electricity is used for electrolysis water to produce green hydrogen, with an annual output of about 30000 tons of green hydrogen, building a full chain closed loop from wind solar power generation to green hydrogen application. Rule refinement and sample value

In July 2026, the Xinjiang Electric Power Trading Center released a zero carbon park trading service guide, which for the first time clarified the market identity, trading boundaries, and green certificate ownership of green power direct connection projects, forming a full process rule from market access to measurement and settlement. This set of rules has benchmark reference significance for the main body of zero carbon park layout nationwide. From grid connected one-to-one direct supply, to park level multi-user direct connection, and to fully off grid hydrogen production closed-loop, Xinjiang's green power direct connection extends synchronously in three dimensions. Industry analysts believe that the direct connection of green power has connected the last mile of wind and solar resources from generation to utilization, providing a low-cost and carbon reducing path for high energy industries. It is also exploring a new model of deep binding between energy and industry, and may become an important reference sample for the high-quality development of new energy in the country.Editor/Gao Xue
