On August 3, 2026, Unit 2 of the Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project, jointly constructed by China Construction Second Engineering Bureau, was officially put into operation for power generation. This marks the full completion and operation of the first phase of the Hualong One project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. As the contractor for the civil engineering and steel lining of the first phase of the nuclear island project, China Construction Second Engineering Bureau shoulders the responsibility of constructing two million kilowatt units. As of now, China Construction Second Engineering Bureau has undertaken a total of 10 Hualong 1 nuclear power units, of which 4 have been put into operation for power generation.

Innovation driven construction model for nuclear power plants

Faced with the high-precision requirements of the third-generation nuclear power technology of Hualong One, the project team has implemented a total of 52 innovative achievements in localization, modularization, digitization, and other aspects. During the construction of Unit 2, the project applied for the first time the steel lined bottom plate and truncated cone module integral lifting technology, significantly reducing the risk of high-altitude operations; Pioneering the modular overall lifting construction technology for SG compartments, module installation can be completed in just 10 days, greatly improving construction efficiency.

Strictly abide by the lifeline of nuclear power safety and quality

The project has established a systematic safety and quality control system, developed 48 specialized practical work procedures, refined 82 improvement measures, and won honors such as the ISA International Safety Award. In terms of quality management, the first phase of Taipingling Nuclear Power has completed a total of 39358 hold point inspections, with a first-time acceptance pass rate of 99.5%; 105831 witness points were inspected, with a one-time acceptance pass rate of 99.4%, achieving the goal of zero missed evaluations and zero erroneous evaluations.

Green energy empowers the development of the bay area

The Taipingling Nuclear Power Project plans to construct 6 million kilowatt Hualong 1 nuclear power units. After the first phase of the project is fully completed and put into operation, it can provide over 18 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, meeting the annual electricity needs of nearly 2 million people, and reducing equivalent carbon dioxide emissions by over 16.63 million tons annually, effectively enhancing the clean energy supply guarantee capability of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.Editor/Gao Xue
