On August 5, 2026, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagai stated that as two coastal countries of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran and Oman have been negotiating for the past two months on the arrangement of safe navigation routes for commercial vessels. Relevant technical, legal, safety, and environmental issues are currently under review by relevant Iranian departments.  

Bagae said that the negotiations between the two sides were professional and progressing, and had reached an agreement on the geographical coordinates of the proposed new route. If there is no third-party interference, the joint statement between the two countries has entered the final review and drafting stage.

However, Bagae emphasized that reaching an agreement between Iran and Afghanistan does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz will resume safe navigation. He stated that the closure of the strait was due to the military actions launched by the United States and Israel against Iran and the resulting regional security situation. The "threatening actions" such as the US maritime blockade against Iran still exist, so the security situation in the strait has not fundamentally improved.  

In addition, Bagae stated that there are no plans for the Iranian Foreign Minister or Speaker to visit Pakistan or Qatar this weekend, but Pakistan and Qatar are still pushing for a cooling of the regional situation, and Iran is maintaining communication and coordination with the two countries.Editor/Min Jing
