On August 4, 2026, the Syrian Transitional Government Civil Aviation and Shipping Authority announced that Syrian Airlines would resume regular direct flights between the capital Damascus and the Russian capital Moscow starting from August 16.
Syrian Airlines announced on the same day that passengers can now book tickets for the route through the company's official website or application. Omar Hossari, Director of the Civil Aviation and Shipping Administration of the Syrian Transitional Government, said that the resumption of the route is a new measure for Syria to further "open up to the world" and is also part of the ongoing efforts to develop Syria's air transportation industry.
It is reported that Syria has recently opened or resumed multiple direct flights with countries such as the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia. The Russian side stated that after the political upheaval in Syria in December 2024, direct passenger flights between Damascus and Moscow were suspended.Editor/Min Jing
