Recently, a closed door meeting in Ulaanbaatar has just ended. The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Mongolia, Damdingnihamgongor, often sits face-to-face with the General Manager of China Gas Holdings Limited, discussing not simple trade exchanges, but systematic cooperation from power generation to refining, from lignite gas extraction to joint venture construction. For Mongolia, which has long been plagued by energy shortages, this may be a crucial step towards energy independence.

From pipeline gas to local power generation and refining

China Gas plans to deploy local power generation capacity in the provinces with the most severe energy shortages in Mongolia, launching power plant projects with an installed capacity of 100 to 300 megawatts, as well as power supply facilities in remote mining areas and power deficient areas with an installed capacity of 5 to 10 megawatts. At the same time, the company is preparing to directly invest in Mongolia's joint production of diesel and liquefied natural gas to help Mongolia overcome the supply difficulties caused by fluctuations in the international oil market. The Mongolian minister clearly stated that the government will provide investors with a stable and transparent legal environment and tax and customs incentives within the framework of the national industrial and technological park development policy.

Brown coal gasification opens up a new path for clean energy

One of the priority technological directions for cooperation between the two parties is to extract methane from Mongolia's abundant brown coal seams. If this technology is successfully implemented, it will create a new clean alternative energy source for Mongolia, utilizing local resource endowments while reducing dependence on imported fuels. As a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, China Gas has an annual turnover of over 9.4 billion US dollars, operates over 660 municipal pipeline franchises and approximately 500 liquefied natural gas refueling stations, and has full chain capabilities from upstream extraction to downstream distribution. The working group accelerates the feasibility study

After the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a working group as soon as possible, quickly carry out technical information exchange, and start developing detailed feasibility studies to launch pilot projects. The Mongolian minister emphasized that within the national policy framework, the government will provide comprehensive support for these measures. From conference rooms in Ulaanbaatar to brown coal seams in the Gobi Desert, China Mongolia energy cooperation is shifting from trade transactions to investment and joint construction, and from emergency fuel supply to systematic energy solutions.Editor/Gao Xue
