Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam has reached a critical infrastructure milestone, with the first tram project officially starting track construction. As a key supporting project for the APEC Summit in 2027, this project will gather multiple Chinese enterprises to participate in construction, comprehensively improve the transportation facilities on the island, and enhance the regional opening-up business card.

Clear project overview

The track construction is jointly promoted by Vietnam National Railway Group and CR16G consortium, and the XL-03 section that has been implemented is the core key project. The first phase of the project has a total length of 17.56 kilometers, covering various laying methods on elevated ground and underground, and supporting the construction of 6 stations and 1 vehicle depot. The project adopts a standard gauge of 1435mm and a DC1500V overhead contact system for power supply, equipped with a 3-car articulated high floor tram, to construct a standardized international urban transportation system.

Construction breakthrough promotion

Due to the special location of the island, the project construction is difficult, and various building materials need to be transported by ferry, with a one-way transportation time exceeding 3 hours. To ensure the construction progress, the project has been under continuous construction for 5 months, and the entire process adopts a three shift construction mode to catch up with the schedule. The smooth progress of the current track construction lays a solid foundation for subsequent equipment integration, line debugging, and formal operation, and fully guarantees the timely implementation of the project. Chinese enterprises deeply participate

The project is constructed using the BOT model, with a total investment of nearly 9 trillion Vietnamese dong, equivalent to 346 million US dollars. Multiple leading domestic enterprises have been deeply involved throughout the entire process, with CR16G responsible for the construction of the core track project, CRRC Dalian providing 14 customized 3-car trains, and China Railway Express undertaking the first phase of the four electric integration EPC project. After the completion of the project, the travel time from the airport to the APEC Conference Center can be reduced to 20 minutes, effectively relieving traffic pressure and comprehensively improving the level of public transportation and cultural tourism supporting facilities in Fuguo Island.Editor/Min Jing
