The inland transportation network in East Africa has undergone significant strengthening, and Tanzanian mining companies have invested heavily in building external roads for mining areas, which will be constructed and implemented by CCECC. Local government officials on-site supervised and urged the acceleration of this cross-border freight channel, which not only facilitates the transportation of minerals, but also explores innovative financing models for mining to support infrastructure.

Project construction progress

Tanzania's Minister of Energy, Ndeyambeli, inspected the Kahama Kakola 73 kilometer highway project from August 9 to 11, 2026, and requested CCECC to accelerate the construction pace. The project funding comes from two mining areas in Barrick Twiga, with a total investment of 100.6 billion shillings, equivalent to approximately 38 million US dollars, supervised by the Tanzania National Highways Authority. At present, 32 kilometers have been paved with asphalt, originally scheduled to be completed in September. However, due to objective construction conditions, it is expected to be delayed and open to traffic in December. The highway connects multiple provinces and is a key node in the cross-border freight corridor leading to Rwanda and Uganda.

Opportunities for industrial extension

This mining capital directly participates in highway construction, opening up a new financing path for local infrastructure. Engineering has driven an increase in demand for building materials such as asphalt concrete, culvert pipes, bridge steel structures, and traffic safety facilities. With the increase of transportation business in the mining area, the distribution and warehousing system of surrounding building materials will continue to expand, releasing a large amount of cooperation space in the fields of road materials, drainage components, prefabricated bridge components, traffic signs, and warehousing and distribution.Editor/Min Jing
