On the vast Gobi Desert of Uzbekistan, abundant sunshine not only nurtures life, but also contains tremendous energy to drive industrial transformation. Recently, a cross-border industrial cooperation is closely linking the solar energy on this land with the abundant mineral resources underground. Uzbekistan Technology Metal Complex, China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and green hydrogen technology enterprise Hygreen Energy have officially signed a memorandum of understanding for tripartite cooperation. The three parties will work together to explore cross-border industrial projects centered on green hydrogen energy, deep processing of key minerals, and low-carbon metallurgy. This cooperation not only connects technology and resources, but also opens up a new practical path for green industrialization in Uzbekistan and even the entire Central Asian region.

Green hydrogen breakthrough and high carbon smelting

The traditional metallurgical industry has always been synonymous with high energy consumption and high carbon emissions, which is also the most difficult bone to crack in the industrial transformation and upgrading process of Central Asian countries. Although Uzbekistan has a strong metallurgical industry foundation and abundant key minerals, how to break away from the old model of simply exporting mineral raw materials and achieve industrial modernization has always been a key breakthrough for the country.

The core logic of this cooperation is to rely on the abundant solar energy resources in the local area to develop green hydrogen energy, replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen for metal smelting. This transformation can not only significantly reduce industrial carbon emissions, but also deeply unleash the economic value of key mineral resources. The implementation of this memorandum marks the official start of Uzbekistan's new exploration of green hydrogen driven upgrading of its local mineral industry, truly embedding clean energy into the traditional heavy industry chain.

Integrated model for solving difficult problems

Large scale green hydrogen industrial projects often face practical challenges such as large capital investment, long construction cycles, and high technological barriers. In order to connect the entire chain of project implementation, this tripartite cooperation innovation adopts an integrated model of engineering, procurement, construction, and financing, providing a complete solution for the project from design, equipment procurement, engineering construction to fund raising.

The collaborative team will prioritize conducting feasibility assessments and planning the construction of advanced electrolytic cell integrated hydrogen production facilities in the Nurabad and Ahangaran regions. At the same time, all parties will actively connect with the international capital market, introduce diversified international capital to participate in project construction, and effectively solve the funding bottleneck. More importantly, the scope of cooperation is not limited to green hydrogen production. The three parties will also promote the transfer of advanced hydrogen energy technology to Uzbekistan, and simultaneously develop innovative industrial solutions for deep processing of key minerals and low-carbon metallurgy, building an integrated industrial loop of green hydrogen production, mineral processing, and low-carbon smelting.

Triple Advantage Strong Alliance

The success of a multinational large-scale industrial project cannot be achieved without the complementary combination of multiple advantageous resources. This cooperation is a strong alliance of resources, engineering, and technology capabilities.

As a leading international engineering contracting enterprise in China, Zhongtu Group has been deeply involved in overseas markets for many years and has accumulated rich experience in the fields of railways, highways, large industrial plants, and energy infrastructure. It will undertake the core responsibility of project construction and management. Hygreen Energy focuses on cutting-edge green hydrogen energy technology, deeply cultivates the manufacturing of electrolytic cell equipment, and has rich practical experience in overseas projects, providing core hydrogen production technology and complete sets of equipment for the project. The Uzbekistan Technical Metal Complex holds key local mineral resources and is familiar with the country's industrial system and policy environment, making it a key carrier for project implementation.

This cooperation model is no longer a simple equipment export, but a systematic output of China's mature engineering performance capabilities, specialized hydrogen energy technology, and local resources in Ukraine. This will not only help Uzbekistan transform its traditional metallurgical industry and promote the large-scale application of new energy technologies in local heavy industry scenarios, but also assist the country's industry in transitioning towards low-carbon and high added value.

The collaboration between China and Ukraine, from the planning of electrolytic cells on the Gobi Desert in Central Asia to the empowerment of mineral metallurgy with green hydrogen, is a vivid practice of jointly building the Green Silk Road. It breaks away from the traditional framework of pure energy trade and moves towards deep cooperation in technology co construction and industrial co prosperity. Under the wave of global low-carbon transformation, relying on the complementary advantages of various resources, more cross-border projects that balance ecological and economic benefits are expected to emerge in the future, continuously releasing new momentum for regional economic development.Editor/Yang Meiling
