As the international situation intensifies, the foreign ministers of China and South Korea held important talks in Seoul, focusing on bilateral relations, economic and trade cooperation, and regional situations, laying a solid foundation for the anniversary cooperation of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On August 19, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in Seoul. Both sides expressed that, based on the consensus reached through the mutual visits of the two heads of state, the relationship between China and South Korea is steadily improving. As the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations approaches, both sides will deepen bilateral friendly cooperation and prepare for commemorative activities for the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.

The Chinese side proposes that China and South Korea have formed a deeply integrated community of interests, and both sides can upgrade traditional production capacity cooperation, explore emerging growth points such as artificial intelligence, green transformation, and digital economy, accelerate the second phase negotiations of the China South Korea Free Trade Agreement, and deepen cooperation in cultural and multilateral affairs. The South Korean side reiterates its consistent One China policy and is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields. Both sides also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and jointly maintained long-term peace and stability in the region.Editor/Min Jing
