On August 18, 2026, the 71451 train loaded with coal departed from Jingbian East Station in Shaanxi and headed south to Xiangzhou North Station in Hubei. This ordinary freight train has officially pushed the cumulative number of trains shipped on the Haoji Railway to over 100000, and the cumulative shipment of goods has exceeded 550 million tons. This strategic channel for transporting coal from the north to the south has delivered an impressive performance in nearly 7 years of operation.

Gradual and continuous increase in transportation capacity
As the world's longest heavy-duty railway built and opened in one go, the Haoji Railway has a total length of 1813.5 kilometers, connecting seven provinces and regions including Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangxi. Since its opening in 2019, the transportation volume of the line has been climbing year by year, with the annual volume exceeding 100 million tons for two consecutive years. From January to July 2026, the daily average number of vehicles loaded on the route was 2776, a year-on-year increase of 12.8%. In May, the monthly average number of vehicles loaded exceeded 3000, setting a new historical high since its opening. From the initial stage of line operation to the current full load operation, the transmission capacity of this north-south energy artery is continuously being released.
Normalization of 10000 ton heavy load landing
In 2022, the Haoji Railway officially launched a heavy-duty train with a capacity of 10000 tons, using double harmony fixed multiple unit locomotives for traction, with a single freight volume exceeding 8000 tons. As of now, a total of 2590 heavy-duty trains with a capacity of 10000 tons have been operated on the line, making it one of the railway sequences in China with a normalized capacity of 10000 tons. The popularization of the heavy load mode in large formations has significantly reduced the transportation cost of unit goods and improved the efficiency of the transportation channels for coal from the north to the south. From the Loess Plateau to the hinterland of Jiangnan, the Haoji Railway has been operating steadily for nearly 7 years, completely connecting the north-south longitudinal trunk line for cross regional allocation of China's coal resources. It not only provides stable support for energy supply in the central and southern regions, but also accumulates mature practical experience for long-distance operation of heavy-duty railways nationwide.Editor/Cheng Liting
