On the streets of Phnom Penh, smartphones have long been popular, but the digital world behind the screen is still unfamiliar to many people. In a conference room, Cambodia and South Korea sat down, not discussing road and factory construction, but only one thing: to enable ordinary people to understand AI, use digital tools effectively, and truly deliver technological dividends to ordinary people.
On August 20, 2026, Cambodian Minister of Information Ne Pakla met with the Chairman of the Cambodian Korean Economic Council, Kim Dae jung, and his delegation. The two sides will focus their cooperation on enhancing digital literacy and promoting education through artificial intelligence. This meeting sends a clear signal: Cambodia is introducing South Korea's digital experience, accelerating the popularization of local AI society, filling the gaps in digital talent, and digital and AI have become a priority track.

Both sides affirm the necessity of strengthening bilateral ties and focus on exploring the possibility of practical cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the Cambodia Korea Economic Council. The core of the talks focuses on the construction of digital literacy for all and the popularization of AI cognition among the public, defining it as a priority area for social and economic development in the era of technology. Nie Pakla stated that on the one hand, it promotes the efficient and secure implementation of digital technology, while releasing dividends and holding the bottom line of risks; On the other hand, we will continue to expand public awareness of the potential value of AI. The current digital literacy and AI foundation of ordinary people in Cambodia are still obvious shortcomings. As the competent department for information dissemination, the Ministry of Information plays a key role in popularizing digital and AI knowledge throughout society.

South Korea has mature experience in digital popularization and AI national education, and this cooperation is more focused on civil government collaboration. Unlike the Postal Communication Department, which focuses on infrastructure hardware, the News Department is filling in the gaps in human capabilities - with a well-developed network and people's literacy keeping up, the digital economy can truly come to life. For overseas investors, the AI track in Cambodia is not only about technological infrastructure, but also includes policy dividends in digital science popularization and education. The government's attitude towards AI is bidirectional: exploring potential also emphasizes safety, and compliance and risk control are prerequisites. Cambodia South Korea technology cooperation is heating up, digital AI、 Talent training is becoming a new growth point and deserves continuous tracking.Editor/Gong Ziwei
