Singapore's electricity demand continues to rise with industrial upgrading, and energy supply pressure continues to increase. To ensure stable power supply and support long-term economic development, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore has approved new power generation unit projects to promote the expansion and upgrading of the local power system.
Officially approved for the landing of a new unit project
On Thursday, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore approved the construction and operation of a new combined cycle gas turbine generator set by Dashi Power Company, granting the project construction and operation authority. The unit has a generating capacity of 670 megawatts and is planned to be put into commercial grid operation in December 2031.
In April of this year, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore initiated the solicitation of proposals for new power generation capacity through a centralized approval process. This planning measure can make up for the shortage of electricity supply in advance, ensuring sufficient and stable electricity supply in Singapore in the future.

The demand for electricity is steadily increasing
The main reasons for the increase in electricity demand in Singapore are economic growth, the transformation of transportation electrification, and the expansion of energy intensive industries such as semiconductors and data centers. The combination of multiple development factors is driving the sustained and rapid increase in the scale of electricity consumption in the whole society. As a regional center for high-end manufacturing and digital economy, Singapore's semiconductor industry continues to expand, and its data center industry is developing rapidly. The growth of such high energy consuming industries further increases overall electricity consumption and accelerates the demand for upgrading electricity supply and demand.
According to the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, the peak annual growth rate of local electricity demand in the next decade is expected to be 2.4% to 4.8%. By 2031, the peak electricity demand will reach 9.6GW to 11.4GW, indicating an urgent need for power expansion.

Advance layout to safeguard the long-term development of the industry
The early layout of power infrastructure is an important guarantee for the sustainable development of Singapore's economy. Core industries such as semiconductors and data centers have extremely high requirements for the stability and adequacy of power supply, and stable energy supply is the foundation of industrial development. Dashi Electric's newly built gas combined cycle power plant can accurately adapt to the electricity demand of high energy consuming industries, providing power support for industrial expansion and the landing of new projects. The project adopts efficient and mature technologies, taking into account stable power supply, efficient energy utilization, and low-carbon development needs. This power expansion layout can effectively fill the future gap in power supply and demand, optimize the local power supply structure, consolidate Singapore's position as a regional energy hub, and lay a solid energy foundation for the transformation and upgrading of urban industries and high-quality development.Editor/Huang jiali
