The international flights at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport are taxiing towards the runway and preparing to take off. The roadmap for the construction of the gateway hub in Chengdu Eastern New Area over the next three years will be officially announced at the development conference on August 31, 2026. This three-year action plan anchored to opening up to the west and south directly implements the growth goals and route expansion tasks of the airport economic zone, and accelerates the construction of the western aviation channel for opening up to the outside world.

Clear three-year construction goals

According to the three-year action plan released this time, by 2028, Tianfu International Airport aims to open more than 85 international regional routes, with a passenger throughput of over 58 million and a cargo and mail throughput of over 480000 tons.

Relying on the core aviation resources of Tianfu Airport, the Eastern New Area will continue to strengthen its international route network from west to south, further enhancing its aviation radiation capabilities towards Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Central Asia, and transforming the airport's location advantage into a channel advantage for opening up to the outside world.

Composite hub forming speed increase

The plan clearly proposes to double the total import and export volume of foreign trade and the output value of enterprises above designated size in the International Airport Economic Zone by 2028. Through the implementation of supporting policies, the Eastern New Area will attract market entities in the fields of aviation manufacturing, aviation logistics, cross-border commerce, etc. through theme exchanges, achievement exhibitions, and thematic docking, and connect the linkage between aviation hubs and industrial development.
