Due to the rapid development of data centers and AI industries, Thailand's power access applications have reached 35 million kilowatts (35GW), approaching the national peak demand of 40 million kilowatts, while the Power Development Plan (PDP) only plans for 8.8GW of supporting power for data centers. To this end, EGAT plans to invest approximately 1 billion US dollars (35 billion Thai baht) to upgrade the transmission network of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), deploy the Fast Response Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and establish data center exclusive electricity prices and bank guarantee mechanisms. Relevant measures are expected to be clarified within the year.

Mitsubishi Electric believes that Thailand's 25% reserve power generation capacity is an important advantage in attracting data center investment, and should ensure the operation of the power grid through stable base load power supply. Natural gas remains an important transitional energy source, and hydrogen ammonia co firing should be gradually developed. Wanpu Group regards energy system flexibility as the key to coping with data center load fluctuations, and is building 10 BESS projects in 5 countries with a total capacity of about 2.4GWh, as well as laying out energy trading and advanced grid management.Editor/Min Jing
