On the evening of September 27, 2026, the sea breeze on Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang was enveloped in a salty and humid atmosphere. The first tank of concrete fell smoothly from the construction site of the nuclear island, and the FCD operation of Unit 2 of Bailong Nuclear Power Plant officially started. The first nuclear power project in Guangxi has entered a new cycle of dual unit parallel promotion from the stage of single unit construction.

Breaking through construction difficulties in large volume temperature controlled pouring

The FCD of the nuclear island of Unit 2 this time adopts a single-sided continuous one-time integral pouring method, with a planned pouring of about 6637 cubic meters of concrete and a continuous operation time of about 58 hours. Faced with multiple construction challenges such as irregular temperature control and difficult maintenance due to the large size and irregular shape of the base plate, the project team completed multiple rounds of process simulation and deduction in advance, and prepared a special construction plan.

The latest on-site data in September shows that the temperature of the concrete entering the mold for the first 12 hours after pouring is stably controlled below 26 degrees Celsius, and the temperature difference of all 128 monitoring points covered by the intelligent temperature measurement system is controlled within the design allowable range. The owner's supervisor and the general contractor shall conduct on-site control throughout the entire process, relying on the smart engineering platform to schedule materials and personnel in real-time, ensuring smooth and orderly operation of the entire construction process.

Dual unit construction opens up new space for green energy

The Bailong Nuclear Power Project is located at the southernmost end of Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang City. It plans to construct 2 CAP1000 nuclear power units and 4 Guohe No.1 units, with a total installed capacity of approximately 8.5 million kilowatts and a total investment of approximately 120 billion yuan. The FCD of Unit 1 in the first phase of the project was completed in December 2025, and it has now entered the main installation stage of the nuclear island. Both units adopt CAP1000 third-generation passive nuclear power technology, with a single unit capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts. Keywords: nuclear power units, energy news

After the completion and operation of the first phase of the project, the annual power generation will be about 20 billion kilowatt hours, which can reduce the consumption of standard coal by about 6 million tons per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 16 million tons. The emission reduction effect is equivalent to planting about 44000 hectares of broad-leaved forests. As a landmark project for the construction of a national comprehensive energy security zone in Guangxi, this project will inject stable zero carbon power into the optimization of energy structure in the coastal areas of southern China.Editor/Cheng Liting
