In the morning, the trucks at Khorgos Port formed a long queue. Drivers who travel back and forth between China and Kazakhstan for many years have found that they have encountered more construction signs after leaving the country this year: one section of the road has just finished laying the bottom layer, and the next section has started milling and renovating. For long-distance runners, a brief detour means smoother roads and shorter journeys in the future.
These changes stem from a major project currently underway in Kazakhstan. According to the news department of the Ministry of Transport, Kazakhstan is continuing to implement the instructions of the head of state on repairing 10000 kilometers of national highways throughout the country. By 2026, over 4000 kilometers of national highways will be included in the renovation plan nationwide. According to the plan, over 2000 kilometers of highways will undergo medium repairs within the year, and 97 kilometers of highways that have undergone major repairs will be delivered for use.

Mid scale maintenance covers 3600 kilometers
At present, 124 road sections across the country are undergoing intermediate repairs, involving a total length of over 3600 kilometers of highways. As of now, more than 1200 kilometers of highways have completed roadbed construction, over 1800 kilometers of highways have laid asphalt concrete lower layers, and over 2200 kilometers of highways have completed asphalt concrete upper layers. One layer of roadbed, two layers of asphalt, the process is interrelated. All projects are progressing according to the established schedule and quality requirements. During the construction process, relevant departments attach great importance to the implementation of technical specifications for highway maintenance and the daily maintenance of highway facilities.

Overhaul and conquer 343 kilometers
Parallel to the medium maintenance, there is a 343 kilometer national highway major repair project, involving a total of 60 projects. Among them, 29 projects are still under construction, and 2 projects have been completed and delivered for use. It is expected that by the end of this year, 8 projects involving 97 kilometers of highways will be completed for major repairs and put into use. Major repairs often mean roadbed reinforcement, overall road surface renovation, and even linear optimization, with longer construction periods and higher standards, making it a key factor in improving the quality and efficiency of road networks.
The road leads to the flow of animals
Kazakhstan is located in the hinterland of the Eurasian continent, with 13 international transportation corridors passing through the country, including 5 railways and 8 highways. The road has been repaired, and the passing cars will naturally run faster. In the first three quarters of this year, the total amount of transit goods transported through Kazakhstan reached 32.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%, and the road freight volume increased by 5.6% year-on-year. With the expansion of international road transport cooperation between China and Kazakhstan to include comprehensive transportation, transit transportation, and third-party transportation, trucks departing from China can travel westward via Kazakhstan. At the same time, road projects such as Aktobe to Kizillorda and Karaganda to Jezkazgan have also started construction. It is predicted that the total output value of Kazakhstan's transportation industry will reach 13.1 trillion tenge, approximately 29.03 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 9.2% in 2026.keywords:Engineering infrastructure

In addition, new projects aimed at further upgrading and renovating the national highway network are also under preparation. Advancing highway repair work in stages will help improve road conditions, enhance road safety, and ensure smooth and stable traffic connections between regions across the country.Editor/Yang Meiling
