On October 19, 2026 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Plev in Sofia.

Wang Yi congratulated Vice Premier Plev on the successful visit to China not long ago, stating that the current period is an important opportunity for the development of China Bulgaria relations. Both sides should move towards each other and use more pragmatic cooperation to support their respective development and revitalization. China is willing to expand pragmatic cooperation with Bulgaria in the fields of finance, investment, and other areas. We hope that the insurance company can optimize its visa policy and create better conditions for facilitating personnel exchanges between the two countries. I believe that with the efforts of both sides, the China Bulgaria relationship will surely open a more vibrant new chapter.

Wang Yi stated that Bulgaria has a unique geographical location and can serve as an important link between Asia and Europe. As a member of the European Union, Bulgaria can play an active role in the strategic cooperation between China and the EU. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Bulgaria side to make a good docking between the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the construction of the "Middle Corridor".

Plev congratulated China on successfully promoting modernization construction and achieving significant achievements in economic development, technological innovation, infrastructure and other fields. Plev said that his recent visit to China was very successful, and the high-level reception from China reflects the high importance it attaches to Bulgaria. The Baoxin government has a positive willingness and long-term plan to develop relations with China, and is willing to become a gateway for Chinese enterprises to enter Europe. The Bulgarian side is willing to make unremitting efforts to promote cooperation between Bulgaria and China, as well as between Europe and China, and transform friendly relations into more practical cooperation achievements.
