On January 28, 2021, General Electric Company (GE) announced that it has received an order to provide natural gas power generation equipment for West Africa Energy's 300MW combined cycle power generation project in Dakar, Senegal.
After the completion of the Cap des Biches power plant, it will become the largest power plant in Senegal. It is expected to generate nearly 25% of the electricity consumption and provide the equivalent of 500,000 Senegalese households. The power plant is expected to be put into operation in phases starting from 2022, which will expand the universal power supply and support the Senegalese government's goal of increasing its power generation capacity by using more natural gas and renewable energy.
Samuel Sarr, Chief Executive Officer of West Africa Energy, said: "We are very pleased to cooperate with GE to provide Senegal with reliable and efficient gas turbines. This is consistent with the country’s natural gas power generation strategy under the leadership of President Macky Sall. Vital".
