On February 19, Serbian Finance Minister Sinisha Mari said that Serbia plans to start building the second line of the Belgrade Metro in 2023. Mali stated in a government statement that the construction of the second subway line will be completed in 2030.
Earlier this month, Infrastructure Minister Tomislav Momirović stated that Serbia will start the construction of the Belgrade Metro Line 1 in November and will be completed in 2028.
The Serbian government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese Electric Power Corporation and French companies Alstom and Eguis Railway Corporation in January to build the Belgrade Metro.
According to the preliminary design of the project, the Belgrade metro network will initially consist of two lines of 22 kilometers and 19.8 kilometers, and will integrate four urban railway lines. The first line of the subway will run along the Sava River, through the center of Belgrade, connecting the Maquisko-Porje area in the southwest of the Serbian capital with the Mirievo area near the Danube in the northeast. The second line will connect Zemun, the northwestern suburbs of Belgrade, through the new Belgrade municipality to the Mirievo area.Editor/Huang Lijun
