On February 25, 2021, the Austrian State of Tyrol and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) signed an important railway expansion contract. The new infrastructure investment is 240 million euros and will be used for the modernization of railway stations and railways. After the completed first project "Tyrolean Contract 1", the "Tyrolean Contract 2" was presented in Innsbruck.

From the total expenditure of 240 million euros, the country's share will reach 55 million euros. The funds will be apportioned over the next ten years, and 8.4 million euros will be invested exclusively in municipal services.

Tyrol Governor Pratt and Lieutenant Governor Felipe emphasized: “By 2030, Tyrol will have a total of 18 transportation stations undergoing modernization, some of which will be newly built. By then, railways, buses, bicycles +Multimodal transport between cycling and parking + cycling will play a key role."

Climate change is one of the goals

The expansion of the Tyrol Railway will contribute to a climate-friendly environment, including modern bicycle lockers, mobile hubs and modern railway stations. These investments support climate protection while ensuring economic stability and ensuring employment opportunities in the region.

The goal is to reduce traffic on roads and highways and to functionalize public transportation to make commuters easier. The annual carbon footprint impact of the Austrian Federal Railways is approximately 4.2 million tons of carbon dioxide.

Ensuring that work is another goal

Stimulating the economy and creating jobs will bring investment in Tyrol and Austria. Taking into account the pandemic that led to the high overall unemployment rate, every 1 billion investment will create 15,000 jobs, which is better than expected.

In addition, a new parking deck will be built at the railway station, and the Austrian Federal Railways plans to create more travel modes based on travel needs to attract more passengers.Editor/Huang Lijun
